About Me

Since I was a small child, I have always loved bears and still have some special childhood ones. My dad told me that they came alive at night, and since then bears have held a special magic for me.

Having attended Brighton Technical College to train in toy making skills in 1978, I started out making teddy bears for various charities. Early bears went all over the world. During the Miner's Strike, production went into overload and my bears were raffled at Trade Union Conferences and benefits up and down the country.

In 1986, Hugs Unlimited was born and I mainly made and sold toy bears and pandas. I branched out into children's clothes and kept the business going throughout my son's early years and beyond. In 1997 I made my first mohair artist bear and in 2000 Hugs Unlimited became a full time business.

Although I adore traditional bears, I also enjoy pushing the boundaries, and working full time with Hugs Unlimited has enabled me to develop techniques and to try out new ways of enhancing my bears, whilst developing a style which is very much my own.

My work has been featured in the major British bear magazines 'Teddy Bear Times' and 'Teddy Bear Club International' as well as the US magazine 'Teddy Bears and Friends'.

Having spent 20 years living in Glasgow, we have now moved to Todmorden in the heart of the Pennine hills.

Hugs Unlimited celebrated its 21st anniversary last year.
